— Register Grates —

The register grate had its origins in the early 19th century when the idea of closing down a fireplace with a radiant steel or cast iron interior to improve its efficiency first emerged.

The Chesney’s collection of register grates spans the late Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian periods. When used with a real fire, the register grate offers a means of controlling the rate at which the fire burns and enhances the heat that is projected into the room through the radiant effect of its steel or cast iron panels. The majority of grates in the range can be used with a Chesney’s Alchemy gas coal or log effect fire as well as with a real fire.
